The upgrade planner is a tool for the mass updating of entities to alternative items of the same size and type. It can operate both on buildings that have already been placed, and also be used to update the contents of a blueprint. Its primary purpose is the replacing of earlier game entities with later, upgraded items. For example to replace transport belts with fast transport belts, and later with express transport belts. But it is also able to downgrade items, or to change them to a different type - for example converting pipes to underground pipes or belts to underground belts. When used in the game world the upgrade planner is similar in operation to a deconstruction planner and a blueprint, in that it operates on a rectangular area selected by the player, and results in the necessary orders being placed for construction robots.
