In the beginning of the game, it is easy to make everything manually, but as the time advances manual crafting is less and less sufficient way to create stuff.
Basic
Crafting of Items can be automated. Place the needed building, select the recipe and whenever all ingredients are stored in the building the recipe will be produced one after one. To keep up continous production ingredients have to be provided via belts and Inserters. The manufactured Items can also be extracted by Inserters are available for further usage.
Items
Key structures in automated crafting are:
Assembling machines | Assemble intermediate products to Items. |
Furnaces | Smelting resources to intermediate products. |
Setup recipe
When the assembling machine is built and opened for the first time, player must choose the item it should create. This can be changed at any time.
Interface
When the assembling machine is set up it contains:
- Input - inventory slots dedicated for the individual recipe ingredients.
- Output - result of the crafting
- Reset - button to change the recipe
Both Input and Output slots can be filled manually, which is practical in the intermediate automation phase, but later in the game, it is usually filled automatically by inserters.
As soon as it has enough ingredients for one item, the assembling machine starts to craft it, result of the crafting is stored in the output slot, and can be taken manually or by inserter.
