Category:Needs blueprint

Hey, I saw that you mass-edited this category onto file pages. I want to remind you of rule 7 and 5 regarding editing, this is an official warning. The wiki does not enumerate designs, so adding blueprint strings to images should be avoided. The only exceptions to this are the balancers and designs (NOT examples!) shown in tutorials. Furthermore, most images are setup examples, not optimal designs. This includes setups like File:SteamSetupExample.png. Since these are not optimal designs, we should not encourage the user to copy them. Rule 5 ("While the Wiki can be easily reverted in the event of a mistake, please try to avoid creating work for others.") applies in this case because you edited a high number of pages without consulting an admin. Please excuse that I blocked you, I saw the changes and wanted to prevent further mistakes until I had time to write this. I have removed the block again, but I ask you to still not add any blueprint strings to images until I have cleaned up the category. Thank you. -- Bilka (talk) - Admin 05:06, 26 July 2018 (UTC)

I first would like to apologize for the extra work I created. and I see your point. but I would like to explain my thinking. at some point the images that I tagged will become outdated like some of the images I have added to the outdated images category. while some of the images don't need a update others should have them. it is now the case that when somebody would like to update an image he or she needs to build the setup and screenshot it. when a blueprint is added you can just put it down and screenshot it. this saves a lot of time when this is done more often.
so i disagree on the blueprints on the wiki. I understand that you only want the best setups on the wiki. because why would you build a base that is less optimized. but I think this is something every player needs to discover for themselves. And why should we discourage the player from using something that they like. i understand that we should not be pointing to these designs, but they are still on the wiki and could be copied by hand.
So, I hope you understand why I did this and I hope you see the value of this work. I see a few ways that this work might continue. i could do this for only small selection of images. only the best designs or maybe we could do something like hide it in the wiki code so only people in the know can find it
I hope that we can find a solution here.
sincere apologies,

I understand that reasoning, but most images on the wiki contain only a few entities, so rebuilding them is very easy, and does not need a blueprint. So, adding blueprints to things like File:Inserter_pickup_locations.gif is just extra work for you, while saving a very small amount of work if it ever needs to be updated (highly unlikely).
The designs should not be on the wiki. As you said, players should discover designs for themselves, so we don't show them on the wiki (outside of balancers and tutorials). The English part of the wiki already conforms to this rule.
You may only add blueprint strings to the files that still have the category on the page, so the balancers and designs from tutorials. -- Bilka (talk) - Admin 07:47, 29 July 2018 (UTC)
