Use of this template on category pages

Hello fellow editors, I think the documentation for this template is a bit misleading. Because if this template is used on ALL translated pages (including category pages), it will add the respective category with all its pages – no matter if verified or not – as a sub category to :Category:Verified translations/<lang>, e.g. Category:Verified translations/de. Same thing would happen in the rare case that a category page is marked as outdated. I think this defeats the purpose (and the advantages) of having dedicated maintenance categories for verified/outdated articles. Could we change the documentation of this template? Maybe some minor edits like this:

This template is meant to be placed only on translated pages in the article namespace (i.e. not on category or talk pages) to provide an automated way to check whether a translation is still up to date. If the revision-ID provided to the template is the most recent edit of the corresponds English page, the page is added to a category like :Category:Verified translations/de (depending on its language). If it doesn't it is instead added to :Category:Outdated translations/de.

This template should be placed on all translated article pages right after the Languages template. Just copy the following text and fill in the revision-ID.

I see where the confusion might come from, but I don't think excluding category pages is necessary. In contrary, they too should be mirrors of their corresponding English page. True, you can access all of their subpages via :Category:Verified translations/<lang>, but the category is not actually set for the subpages. For example Category:Weapons/de is a subpage of Category:Combat/de but is not itself in Category:Verified translations/de. --Ickputzdirwech (talk) 08:57, 11 November 2025 (UTC)
