Infocards

Really love all the infocard templates, thanks for adding those! :D -- BenWo (talk) 13:47, 25 May 2014 (CEST)

Thank you! I think it adds more uniformity to the wiki, which makes it look neater and more professional. If you have any comments or suggestions, please share them. Or if you see places that can be improved, please do! Virtlink (talk) 13:58, 25 May 2014 (CEST)
Yeah nice infocards :D , btw the documentation can also be added to the template page with {{doc}}. Oh and there's also a category called Wikistyle templates, maybe you can add new templates to this category :) TheGreenkey (talk) 21:05, 25 May 2014 (CEST)
Thanks, I didn't know that! Will look into it. Virtlink (talk) 21:46, 25 May 2014 (CEST)

Maybe we should add an icon showing that the crafting can be done in the player's inventory, where applicable. As it is now, it looks almost like the recipes can only be done in the assembly machines. While this is true for items like the engine unit, it creates some ambiguity. I can't think of a good way of showing this though. WiduX (talk) 21:01, 25 May 2014 (CEST)

Perhaps the hand icon that is also present in the game, indicating that you can craft this by hand? Virtlink (talk) 21:45, 25 May 2014 (CEST)

Derp, why didn't I think of that? That works very well. WiduX (talk) 21:53, 25 May 2014 (CEST)

I've added the Template:Technology infocard template. Please feel free to make modifications if you'd like it to be different before it is implemented. WiduX (talk) 21:55, 25 May 2014 (CEST)

Looks good! In the future, for picking a color for the banner, I found ColorPicker.com quite useful. I'm going to add an extra field to all the info card templates where we can put fields that are used only on a few pages. Virtlink (talk) 21:59, 25 May 2014 (CEST)
Yeah, I just used Photoshop's built-in color picker. I really like the infocard system, great work! WiduX (talk) 22:01, 25 May 2014 (CEST)

I like that! this brings the wiki really forward! The colors should be done more light on the white background, but with black background like in the forum they would look quite nice.

auto-generated infocards
I will try to auto-generate some example infocards as soon as possible! See https://github.com/alexaulbach/FactorioLua2WikiGenerator Ssilk (talk) 09:27, 27 May 2014 (CEST)
That's a great idea. Most of the information can be extracted from the game. Then we always have the most up-to-date information without too much work (after all your effort, that is). Virtlink (talk) 19:55, 27 May 2014 (CEST)

I was planning on making a new infocard template for resources (e.g. Iron plate, Plastic bar, Electronic circuit, etc.), but before I did this I wanted to check with you if you had any plans or suggestions for this? I was planning on having it be quite simple, with a section for the recipe, and a section for what it's used in, to be populated by Ssilk's auto-wiki script. WiduX (talk) 20:13, 27 May 2014 (CEST)

Go ahead, although perhaps its better not to have the 'Used in' section on the info card. It can get really huge, especially for some of the more common items such as gears and circuits. That's why I haven't put it on there yet. What do you think?
Fields I would include are Producers (such as assembly machine 2 or chemical plant), Consumers, Recipe and Raw ingredients. If any item has a special property, such as charge or speed, then you can add it as a custom property in the extra1 or extra2 field on the page of the item itself. Virtlink (talk) 21:18, 27 May 2014 (CEST)
What would the Consumers field do? I'm probably understanding this wrong, but that would just result in a Used in section, wouldn't it? WiduX (talk) 21:26, 27 May 2014 (CEST)
Since Producers are those factories/chemical plants that can make it, Consumers are those factories/chemical plants that can use it. For example, Lubricant is produced by a Chemical plant, but consumed only by assembly machines 2 and 3. Or, Coal is produced by a mining rig, but consumed by a car, locomotive, and a chemical plant. Think of consumers more as a used by than used in. Hope this clears it up, but if it didn't, please tell me. :) Virtlink (talk) 23:43, 27 May 2014 (CEST)
OK. I get what you mean. I really should start remembering to put my signature on these posts, shouldn't I? :P WiduX (talk) 04:18, 28 May 2014 (CEST)
