:* I accepted with no issue the lack of immediate use for the Censor template.  I wasn't aware of any conflict with the button template - I created it, used it immediately and didn't notice anything after that.  I created the Temperature template and immediately started using it on about 20 pages on the wiki.  The purpose of the template was for difficult to create formatting/common text/characters on many pages.  I have only one WIP page, and it's in my userspace, I'm not sure what the issue there is.  I've not made any conscience reversion of changes, and I apologize if there was an edit conflict someplace because someone made a change while I was saving another change.  I'm not difficult to work with, I'm happy to discuss out changes, and I've started a few discussions already.  Thanks. :: The statement that you used it on 20 pages is incorrect, you used it on 4 pages, to my count. But, the number of pages that you used it on is irrelevant, the more important point is that you failed to even check with an admin before making this change. I understand that the degree symbol (°) is difficult to create for those with non-European keyboards, but there is no particular need to have a template to format temperature when saying "X degrees Celsius" is perfectly understandable and acceptable. As for not making any conscious reversion of changes, you reverted my move of your censor and button templates into your userspace. Those pages were considered a WIP because they did not have permission to be in the main wiki. Bilka and I have put a lot of effort into cleaning this wiki up from it's state before us, and so we guide it on a stable path to the benefit of the community. This means that we hesitate to make broad sweeping changes without first consulting the community that uses the wiki. These broad sweeping changes happened much more often in the past, and led to extreme fragmentation of the wiki. You can still notice this fragmentation on some non-english pages. I appreciate your desire to discuss this with us, however your actions do not correlate with your words. There has been little actual discussion of the templates you create.
:: I will give you the benefit of the doubt that you truly wish to increase the quality of the wiki, I commend that. Admins talk internally and will debate adding the template if it genuinely increases the quality of life for editors, as we have done in the past with the History template. Welcome to the Official Factorio Wiki! Now that you have an account, there are a few key places on this Wiki that will be helpful in your efforts to improve it. First and foremost, please be sure to read and understand the rules of this Wiki. If you have any questions or concerns with these rules, please don't hesitate to ask an Admin. Secondly, if you're new to editing Wikis and are unfamiliar with MediaWiki's formatting, please be sure to read the help pages. If you're unsure where to begin, please see the editor noticeboard, where information on the current objectives and projects of the Wiki may be found. Again, welcome, we hope you contribute as much high quality information as you can. Gangsir (talk) - Admin 14:47, 4 June 2017 (UTC)

Addition of a template, modification of rules

Hey there Technical, I noticed that you tried to add a new template and modify the rules to reflect the usage of this template. Pursuant to the rule

"Work in progress pages must be created in the author's userspace, and preferably an admin should be asked before merging into the greater Wiki. All WIP pages made outside the userspace will be moved into the author's space."

I have moved the template into your userspace. In the future, please ask before creating a template to be used, and ask before modifying the wiki rules. Ordinarily, most proposed templates go through, but this one in particular has no immediate use. In the event of this wiki needing to index a quote with profanity, your template will be merged into the greater wiki. The administration team shies away from creating templates with no immediate use. Thanks for your understanding, --Gangsir (talk) - Admin 16:15, 5 June 2017 (UTC)

Official Warning for creation of unnecessary templates

Hello there Technical_13,

I'm Gangsir, head admin of the Factorio wiki. You have already encountered Bilka, another admin of the administration team. We have noticed your repeated creation of templates that hold dubious use. The Official Factorio Wiki's policy dictates that all templates created must have an immediate, significant use, and all templates created must also be proposed in the author's userspace and seek approval from an admin before merging into the main namespace. You have failed to do so repeatedly, and have reversed a slight correction from an admin with your Censor and Button templates. So far, you have violated the following rules:

  • Do not edit-war. If a user overwrites your change and you disagree, do not edit the page back and forth, discuss it on the talk page of the page in question.
  • Work in progress pages must be created in the author's userspace, and preferably an admin should be asked before merging into the greater Wiki. All WIP pages made outside the userspace will be moved into the author's space.
  • Templates are to be used for formatting/common text on many pages. Do not create templates for only a few pages, except for special circumstances.

This is your official warning. Cease creating templates without first seeking approval from an admin, and accept when you are corrected by an admin. Failure to do so will result in a temporary ban. Thanks, and happy editing. --Gangsir (talk) - Admin 16:01, 7 June 2017 (UTC)

I accepted with no issue the lack of immediate use for the Censor template. Thanks. Technical 13 (talk) 16:14, 7 June 2017 (UTC)
The statement that you used it on 20 pages is incorrect, you used it on 4 pages, to my count.
I will give you the benefit of the doubt that you truly wish to increase the quality of the wiki, I commend that. But, I must insist that you stop making templates without first consulting an admin. Admins talk internally and will debate adding the template if it genuinely increases the quality of life for editors, as we have done in the past with the History template. Thank you for your understanding, --Gangsir (talk) - Admin 16:35, 7 June 2017 (UTC)
I used it on 4 pages out of the 20ish tabs I had up in my browser before I noticed the template was deleted, as such I wasn't speaking an untruth. There's another way that this could be resolved that I'm aware of. The addition of https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MediaWiki_talk:Edittools would allow for easy injection of these characters without having a special keyboard or knowing the alt+ code off the top of ones head (alt+248). There are also a few extensions that I'd like to request be added to this wiki to make certain things easier to do, what would be the best place for discussing these things? I agree with you that it would be nice to making on-site editing a little better. The best place for discussion of the wiki is on the somewhat official Discord of the factorio community, here. It's watched and read by the devs, us, and the community. --Gangsir (talk) - Admin 17:24, 7 June 2017 (UTC)
