Need for an unofficial term

I don't see why this term is needed. From my understanding the only things circuit and logistic networks have in common is that machines can read and react to signals from them and that those signals most of the time are item counts of machines. Some machines can only connect to one of them which may make this term even more confusing. I would appreciate if someone could link me to any discussions about this as I couldn't find any.
