Chests are used to store items. Note that, unlike the toolbelt and the vehicle inventories, you cannot set a filter on any of the chest's slots.

Stack limitation

All chests allow the player to disable the use of some slots in the chest. This allows the player to set a limit on the number of item stacks that can be put in the chest. This limit might be useful for controlling the production or movement of a certain item, for example.
