Atomic bombs are very expensive alternative ammunition for the Rocket launcher. They deal incredible damage over a wide area, capable of wiping out groups of Enemies with ease. They will also kill even the most heavily-armored player, so it should be fired from a great distance.

Instead of dealing all of its damage in a single explosion, the atomic bomb creates many small, high-damage explosions in an expanding ring.

Land mines are small, passive defense systems that explode when enemies come near them. Land mines can be placed freely on the map, but must be manually placed by the player. They do enough damage to kill a Small Biter or Small Spitter outright, but will only injure larger enemies.

Land mines are the only passive defense in Factorio; if an alien is hit by a land mine, they will not start chasing the player. However, if a biter notices the player placing a land mine, they will quickly destroy it without causing an explosion.

By carefully placing land mines around the edges of encampments, the player can wipe out small groups of aliens without being targeted. They can also be placed around the walls of a base to provide an extra layer of temporary defense.
Goods which can be used by the player or be placed on the planet.
Player equipment
Tools
Tools are used to increase the mining speed of your character. Whenever you mine resources or items the speed is dependent on your current tool. Iron Axes are your basic tool, after research of Steel Processing the even better Steel Axe gets available.
Note that without a tool, the player cannot attack and therefore the "no tool" tool has no damage.

Weapons
Weapons are used to inflict damage to alien lifeforms and buildings. As tools only provide Damage at close range, weapons should be used in any case. All weapons will consume ammo when fired. For some weapons multiple ammo types are usable, they differ in cost and inflicted damage.
Items

Destroyer capsules are advanced and expensive capsules that, when thrown with the left mouse button, spawn five powerful Destroyer robots.
The Destroyer robots have infinite laser energy and will follow the player, attacking any enemies that come within range, until they run out of health or their lifespans elapse.

Strategy
Follower robots will only loosely follow the player and are subject to inertia. This allows the player to 'swing' packs of Defender/Destroyer robots into enemy bases to damage enemy structures with less risk to himself. Launching Distractor capsules into the enemy base beforehand, as well as using the speed of the Car or Basic exoskeleton equipment can further reduce damage to the player.

Count Limit
The maximum number of active Destroyer robots is limited by the Follower robot count research. While using follower robots, the number of robots in use will be visible in an icon to the right of the quick-bar. Hovering over the icon with the cursor will show the types of robots and the currently researched maximum.
A basic capsule that creates a large, long-lasting cloud of regular poison damage at the target area. This is one of the most effective ways of removing Trees.

Poison capsules can also be used to "kite" Worms, since they are stationary. This technique is relatively safe, but slow and expensive - it takes 4-5 poison capsules to kill a Big Worm. Since Spawners are not affected by poison damage, Poison capsules are also useless against them.
Resistance has two aspects:
Percentual resistance
Is applied first and will just reduce the damage by the specified amount of percent. If the percentage is 100%, the entity is immune to the damage.
Decrease resistance
It decreases the damage by specified number as long as the result damage wouldn't be less than zero.
When the result damage would get less than 0, the extra resistance is used as denominator in the fraction of damage that is going to be dealt
Formulas
A game-tick (or just "tick") is 1/60 of a Game-second.

Everything in Factorio is calculated with that base. For example the speed of anything is internally calculated in Tile/tick.

The real-world duration of a game-tick depends on the speed of your computer, and is at most 1/60th of a second (0,01667 seconds). A tick can last longer when the game stops (say, to autosave) or if the framerate drops below 60FPS.

What is done during one tick?
This FFF-article explains what the game engine calculates on every tick.
A game-tick or just "tick" is 1/60 of a Game-second.

The Basic Transport Belt is the easiest and cheapest method of automatic item transportation. The Pistol is the most basic weapon in Factorio. It can fire either regular ammunition or piercing ammunition. In Freeplay mode, the player starts with a Pistol and 10 Regular Magazines.

The Pistol can only handle the smallest of enemy threats and the player will frequently take damage when trying to use it for self-defense. It is recommended to upgrade to the Submachine gun as soon as possible.

The Car is the earliest alternate form of transportation for the player. Although it requires a bit of fuel, driving a Car is much faster than running, letting you scout out areas or outmaneuver biters. Cars also have a built-in turret (which requires ammo), plenty of storage, and some armor, letting the player use hit-and-run tactics against small groups of enemies.

As of update v0.11, cars will collide with objects - dealing and taking damage in the process. The damage is dependent on the car's speed and the health of the target; small biters and trees can be safely rammed, but colliding with big biters and Walls can easily destroy the vehicle and its contents.

Since Engine units can only be built in Assembling machines, Cars may not be built from by hand from their raw materials.

Use for Storage
Cars can store a tremendous amount of items, be moved along conveyer belts, and interact with inserters. They can be used as large chests or even mini-trains (Cars on Belts - Not just a highway).
