Mining drills are used to automate the extraction of resources. Drills are the first step to automating manufacture, although most resources have to be smelted in a [[furnace]] for further usage.

== Mining Speed Formula ==

Metal and mineral resources have a "mining hardness" rating. The rate at which they are produced is given by:

(Mining power - Mining hardness) * Mining speed / Mining time = Production rate (in resource/sec)

To calculate the time needed for one resource-item use this formula:

Mining time / ((Mining power - Mining hardness) * Mining speed) = Seconds for one resource item

Mining power and speed are functions of the miner while hardness and time are functions of the metal or mineral you are currently mining (you can place a miner over a mixed field).

=== Mining By Hand ===
When mining by hand or with a tool such as the [[iron axe]], the formula is modified slightly:
(1 + Mining Speed Modifier) * .6 * (Tool power - Mining hardness) / Mining Time = Production rate (in resource/sec)

This uses a player mining speed of .01 per tick or .6 per second, and their bare hands with no axe uses a Tool power of 1. The Mining Speed Modifier is typically 0, but can be modified via mod or console command.

Note, that the Burner mining drill covers exactly its size (2x2, and so covered area is also just 2x2), while the Electric mining drill is one tile bigger (size is 3x3, but covered area is 5x5). Place Electric mining drills in the center of resource fields as narrow as possible, but at the borders of the field, more loosely to get a more continuous throughput by having more equal resources per miner.

追加の掘削機を製作します。クラフトメニューの掘削機をマウスオーバーすると、ツールチップウィンドウが表示され、そこには資源のリストが2つ表示されます。
1つ目のリストは掘削機の製作に必要な構成アイテムが表示していて、2つ目のリストはツールチップウィンドウの下の方ににあるもので掘削機の製作の元に必要な資源を表示しています。
他のゲームと異なり、製作に必要な前提アイテムを予め製作しなければならないということはありません。必要なアイテムはあわせて作られます。
製作中、画面の左下にこのプロセスの進捗を見ることができます。
また製作中も必要な資源の限り製作待機を追加することができます。これらは順々に製作していきます。

増えた掘削機と炉を効果的につかうため、石炭と鉱石の産出を自動化していきます。
鉄板と同じように簡単に設置し効果を得ることができます。

石炭は掘削機をお互いに向かい合わせに設置することで、相手側に稼働用の燃料を補給しつつ余った分を集めることができます。余剰となった分は、機械にあるスロットに1スタック分まで蓄積されます。

覚えておきたいのが、ウィンドウを開けずとも、機械にマウスカーソルをあわせて"CTRLキー"＋左クリックで、機械にある資源を自分のインベントリへ集めることができます。
また、"ALTキー"で詳細表示を切り替えるのも有効です。

[[Stone/ja|石]]は、矢印の先にチェストを設置するだけで、直接チェストに入れることができます。

一度全部できるようになれば、もっと速くしたくなるでしょう。より多くの炉とより多くの掘削機を鉄のために設置し、銅のためには数個設置し、石炭のためにはそれをカバーするだけ充分に掘削機を多く置いていきます。
ゲーム序盤においては、鉄が最も使う資源です。銅の倍くらいは鉄が要るでしょう。ただ、銅も今後電化や電気機器を用いるようになるともっともっと重要になってくるので、惑うことにもなりますが！

=== もっと自動化！ ===

4つ程の鉄板を作る炉と、銅板を作る炉2つ、少しの石と相当量の石炭の生産ができるようになれば、とてもうまくいってます。

でも、マジでアレな感じしませんか? ホントに石炭をくべに機械全部にいちいち走って回んなきゃなんないの? これも自動化しちゃいましょう! 搬送ベルトとインサータが実現する方法の一つです。

掘削機の出力スロットは搬送ベルトに載せることもでき、他の機器へ搬送に使えます。

これで石炭は他の場所へ手間なく移動させることができます。あとは機器へ投入する方法だけです。

ここで、[[Inserters|インサータ]]を使うステップについて見ていきます。ゲーム初期の数段階までは、どこからどこへも移動させるインサータのうちチープな[[Burner inserter|燃料式インサータ]]を使っていきます。物体を地面、チェスト、機械から、またそれらへ望むように移動できます。

燃料式インサータは、その稼働に石炭をそれ自身に対して必要で、直感と少し違って、何かに燃料を補給しようとしようとすると、まずインサータ自体に燃料を取り込んでしまいます。

コンパクトなインサータの動作例をご覧ください。注目してほしいのが、黄色の直線がインサータがここからピックアップする場所を示していて、黄色の矢印がその場所へアイテムを移動する場所を示しています。

ここまでで、資源を掘削する方法、それらを自動的にある地点からある地点へ移動させる方法、そして、アイテムを機器に入れたり出したりする方法がわかればOKです。

次に[[Electric system|電気システム]]を見ていきたいと思います。インサータは燃料を取り込むことなく使えるようになります。

== 電力 ==

電気。ここからが面白くなっていく所です。電力を使うには[[Offshore pump|汲み上げポンプ]]が１つと、いくつかのボイラーと[[Steam engine|蒸気エンジン]]が必要になります。必要なのは鉄板が20個、ボイラーが5個であり、これらのセットアップはとても簡単です。汲み上げポンプは水中にあるため、動かすために力は要りません。このポンプからパイプを通してボイラーに水を送るか、あるいはポンプとボイラーを直結することもできます。ボイラーはパイプと同様に水を通せますし、水の加熱もします。しかし、角には配置できません。パイプやボイラーは、蒸気エンジンの短い方の真ん中へ接続します。適切な場所に接続しないと動きません。なお、蒸気エンジンはボイラー同様に水を通せるので、複数のエンジンを一列に並べられます。次の図は小さな例です。

機械に電力を送るには、電柱を使う必要があります。蒸気エンジンの少なくとも１つの正方形と電柱のカバー範囲（青色の四角形）が重なるように、いくつか配置します。電力を供給すると、電力を使う機械の周りには青い輪郭が表示されます。

蒸気エンジンが発電していても何も使っていない場合は、黄色のアイコンが点滅表示します。つまり、次の図は電気を使う機械がつながっていないので、アイコンが表示されるのです！

電力の準備方法は、これまで見てきた通りのものです。優れているのは、ボイラーに対する供給ラインを作る方法です。ボイラーは蒸気エンジンに対して一定量の温水を供給できるよう、輸送ベルトを使って石炭を供給し、常に電力を得られるようにします。

最も頻繁に使われる組み合わせは、汲み上げポンプ１台、ボイラー14台、蒸気エンジン10台です。この３つの比率が最も優れています。１台のポンプで10台のエンジンに対する十分な水を供給し、これらの水を加熱するためには14台のボイラーがあれば十分です。この組み合わせがあれば、効率的な設計に活かせます。しかし、ちょっとまってください。このゲームは全てが実験であり、皆さん自身で様々な方法を発見できるのです！　ですから、皆さんのユニークな設計を見せてください！

電力を使うには、エンジンを搭載する発電所を準備するのと同じくらい簡単です。電気で動く機械を作製し、電柱の青色の四角形が機械に触れるようにするだけです。それと、電柱の線が発電所と接続されているのを確認してください。

以上が電力に関する説明でした。あとは資源の生産を増やしていきましょう。

== 資源と研究の再考 ==

次は鉱石の製錬だけでなく、アイテムの自動化に取りかかりましょう。

ですがその前に、鉱石の生産を増やします。ただ、準備にあたっては少々トリッキーな所があり、同時に行うべきことがいくつかあります。私たちが本当に欲しいのは、工場の設定さえ済ませておけば、あとは放っておいても動くようにすることです。ただ、そのためには[[research|研究]]を通して得られる特別な機械が必要です。

この件については未だ触れていません！　それでは資源の生産から慣れていきましょう。これまでの流れで電気を使えるようになりましたので、[[Mining|電動掘削機]]が利用できます。こちらは燃料式採掘機よりも遙かに優れています。電動掘削機は名前から推測できるとおりに燃料を必要とせず、同じ処理を2倍速く行います。掘り出した資源をベルトに出力したあとは、大量の鉱石を板にできます。ここでは皆さんが可能な最も小さな例を紹介していますが、あなたの想像力と計算ロジックによって、さらに優れた別の方法を考え出せるでしょう！　皆さんは鉱石をベルトの両端で、多かれ少なかれ均等に分割したいとします。これは、１つのベルトで作業場に大量の資源を送りたいときに役立つでしょう。

これは鉄の供給全般にわたり、簡単に拡張できるものです。転送ベルトによって、全ての鉱石をどこかの作業場に運搬できます。作業場では複数の機械が必要ですが、現時点での研究では限界があるため、まだ利用できません。

最も重要なのは[[long handed inserter|ロングアームインサータ]]の入手です。このインサータは通常のインサータの２倍の距離に届きます！　離れた場所にある転送ベルトに対して、アイテムを入れ込んだり取り出すのに非常に便利です。すなわち、現時点で必要なのは研究所の作成なのです。研究所の作成には多くの資源を必要としませんが、多少の時間がかかります。１つまたは２つの研究所を作成し、電力に接続しましょう。研究所を初めて設置すると、何を研究するのかを確認する画面がポップアップします。現時点では自動化を何としても必要です。これがあれば、インサータと組立機1を使えるようになります。組立機1は後で非常に役立ちます。

そして、必要なコストはサイエンスパック１が10個です。サイエンスパック１を「赤いポーション」や「フラスコ」と呼ぶ人もいます。研究所で研究を始めるには、これら10個を別に単純に作成し、研究所に配置することです。フラスコの製作や研究が終わるまでの間は、鉱石処理センターの建設を続けましょう。この時点では、道、鉄、石炭のラインが必要です。電気の時代になりましたが、炉はもうしばらく石炭を必要とします。

以下はこのエリアをどのようにセットアップできるかという別の例です。効率化するための様々な手法がフォーラムでご覧いただけますが、どのように動作しているかを知りたい場合は、自分自身で試すなり、よりよい設計を求めてwikiやフォーラムを調べることもできます。

いつものように、後で需要が高まれば拡大できるような余地を残しています。ここで重要なのは、炉に燃料を供給している真ん中の石炭を取得できるようにするには、ロングアームインサータが必要な所です。入ってくる資源の処理とは別のベルトが必要です。そして、精錬後に使うためのベルトも必要です。これらの素材は皆さんの作業場に一直線に運べますし、あるいは、他の方法もあるでしょう。最終的には、銅板と鉄板を安定して生成できるようになりますし、皆さんが全く触らなくても、サイエンスパックや弾薬などのアイテム作成を自動化可能になります。

== 研究の自動化 ==

さて、多くの作業をこなしました。次は、優れた研究を通してゲームの後半に挑みます。そのためには、サイエンスパックの作成と研究所への投入を自動化しましょう。自動化が達成できれば、もう研究に対する心配は不要となります。

フォーラムには様々な設計が掲載されていますが、ここでは本当に皆さんに役立つことを簡単にご紹介します。次は物流学の研究を強くお勧めします。物流学の研究により、重要なことがわかります。たとえば、[[splitters|分配器]]、[[underground belts|地下搬送ベルト]]、[[fast inserter|高速インサータ]]です。この時点では、分配器と地下搬送ベルトが最も重要なアイテムです。これらの動作は名前が意味するところとほぼ同じです。

サイエンスパックには何が必要でしょうか？　必要なのは銅板と鉄製の歯車です。これまで扱ってきたのは単なる資源ですが、どのように作成したらよいのでしょうか。その要望に応えるのが組立機です！　組立機を設置して画面を開くと、何を作成するのか訊ねてきます。作成したい何かを選び、それが必要とする要素を入れると、アイテムを作成し、完成した製品として取り出せます。赤いサイエンスパックであれば、鉄製の歯車を作る組立機と、サイエンスパックを作成する組立機が必要になります。これを上手に生産する方法は、銅板が載っている輸送ベルトと、次のような別の組立機から歯車を取れるようにすることです。

この図で使っているトリックについて説明します。板用の輸送ベルトが分かれている場合は、そこから資源を取るのに問題がでる場合があるかもしれません。もちろんロングアームインサータも使えますが、場合によっては望ましくない時もあります（たとえば、組立機に素早く資源を取り込むには高速インサータ緒が必要です）。

赤色で囲まれた箇所は、この問題を回避する良い方法です。分配器を使えば、遠くにあるベルトを近くに移せます。また、ラインは後で使うため、地下にひくことも可能です。銅は地下搬送ベルトを使い、点線の延長上の向こうで出せます。ただ今一度、あくまでこれは様々な手法の１つにすぎず、皆さんがこの通りに作成するのを強制するものではありません。
