Languages
Stub

Gleba is a moist, agricultural planet with fungal hills and swampy lowlands.

It is home to the pentapodsSA, spider-like enemies who are attracted to the scent of biological processing, similar to the way that Nauvis creatures negatively respond to pollution.

Exclusive Items
The following items are unlocked on Gleba:

* Agricultural towerSA
* Heating towerSA
* BiochamberSA
* BiolabSA
* Stack inserterSA
* Rocket turretSA
* Spidertron

Mechanics
Spoilage
Most biological products on Gleba are "spoilable". A spoilable item has an inherent timer attached to it, which begins at the item's creation. When the timer reaches 0, the item is transformed into spoilage,SA with a few exceptions. This process is inevitable and cannot be stopped.

The exact time differs per item, ranging anywhere from a few minutes to 2 hours. This means that item throughput is more important than ever on Gleba, and buffering a large stockpile is ineffective, as items can spoil within containers.

When crafting with spoilable items, the final product will inherit the freshness value of the ingredients. The three exceptions are iron and copper bacteria cultivation, pentapod eggs and fish breeding, whose recipes will always result in a 100% fresh product, regardless of the freshness of the ingredients.

When crafting with two different spoilable items of different freshness values, like in the agricultural science packSA and biofluxSA recipes, the final product's freshness is determined by the following formula

* (Larger freshness/2) + (Smaller freshness/1.5) = Final freshness value <!-- Please check this math -->

The agricultural science pack does spoil, which will gradually decrease its research value, so the player is incentivized to build a fast space platform to bring them back to Nauvis.

Spoilable items are used as ingredients in a few non-spoilable items, such as the biochamberSA. In these, the freshness value of the ingredients do not matter in the product being produced.

Walls provide basic damage protection against enemies. They are used to protect fragile targets from advancing enemy forces, and extend the amount of time defensive structures like turrets have to kill the enemy.

While walls block movement for both the player and enemies, gates can be constructed to allow easy automatic passage for the player. Gates share the same health and resistances to walls, so no defensive power is lost.

Walls do not block projectiles, however, allowing both the player and enemies to shoot over the walls at nearby targets. Ensure that all walls built are far enough away from precious machines so they cannot be damaged over the walls. Due to projectiles' ability to fly over walls, turrets built behind walls will be able to shoot at enemies. This is optimal, as it allows turrets to avoid damage from melee fighters, which must break through the wall to attack targets behind it. Although, care should be taken as the game progresses and enemies evolve because big and behemoth biters can attack 2 tiles away, meaning they can hit structures directly behind a single layer of walls. To prevent this, structures can be moved further back from the walls or a second layer of walls can be added.

Due to the resistance of stone walls, they can take a long amount of time to destroy, despite having less health than most defensive structures. However, it may be necessary in some cases to double-layer walls or even place them in maze-like formations, to slow down enemies even more.

Placing walls in four adjacent tiles forming a square will cause the inner space to be filled. This is only a visual property, the health and the rest of the properties of the walls are not affected.

The programmable speaker is a circuit network entity that is capable of producing alerts in the form of sound, and elements on nearby players' guis. It can be connected to the circuit network to produce an alert when a signal drops below a certain value, for example.

GUI and configuration
It can be toggled whether the sound plays globally so that it can be heard anywhere on the map, or locally so it will only be audible in the immediate vicinity of the speaker. As a courtesy, only enable global play on multiplayer when it is important that all players be notified. Only 50 sounds can be heard at once due to a game limitation.

The volume of the programmable speaker can be controlled in the GUI. This determines the audio volume, and the carry distance if global playback is unticked. The range at full volume appears to be 64 tiles.

As well as playing a sound, it can also be set to send a GUI text alert so the player can see what has caused the alarm. Both text and an icon can be specified. In order to show an alert in players' GUIs, "Show alert" must be ticked. Additional options will be shown that allow the player to select an icon and text for the alert.

The "Allow polyphony" check-box determines whether more than one sound may be played at once. Essentially, when hooking up a constant signal to a programmable speaker, with polyphony enabled, sounds will repeat extremely rapidly. (10 per second or so) Without polyphony, this is limited to about 1 per half second. Disabling polyphony is useful to avoid alerts being spammed and causing hearing damage. However, if producing music, polyphony may be needed.

The "Circuit value is pitch" check-box allows dynamically changing the pitch of the sound created by changing the circuit value. This is useful for music production. If the player simply wants a sound to be created whenever the conditional is met, they should disable this check-box.
The artillery wagon is an end-game wagon that can be added to a train. It fires artillery shells over large distances, either automatically at nearby biter spawners and worms, or at manually designated targets.

In automatic mode, when the train isn't moving, the artillery wagon will automatically scan for enemy buildings (biter nests and worms) and shoot at them. Tragets can be manually designated by clicking on the ground (or the map) using an artillery targeting remote. For each click, an artillery wagon in range will fire once at the target. Firing at the biters from far away isn't all consequence free, as they will run to the wagon and try to attack it.

The artillery wagon can fire while stopped at a train stop, but not when stopped at a red signal or when moving. When a train with an artillery wagon is stopped at a train stop, aiming and shooting counts as activity for the purposes of "X seconds of inactivity" departure conditions in the train's schedule.
[[File:Receipe-cheatsheet.jpg|400px|thumb|Recipe cheatsheet, taken from Factorio Friday Facts #6.]]
Crafting means the production of new entities out of others by using a Recipe. The character or Assembling machines craft. Furnaces smelt, which is not really crafting (cause it can't be done by the character/assemblies), even if smelting uses also recipes.

In the beginning of the game, it is easy to make everything manually, but as the time advances manual crafting is less and less sufficient way to create stuff. Products that require liquids and a few others (such as engine units) cannot be manually crafted. Remember always: Factorio is a game about automation: Even if it look to much work, it is in most cases less work to built assemblies for doing the most important and nastiest stuff.

Items
Manual crafting:
iron-axe || Very useful.
steel-axe || More useful.
character-logistic-slots || Research how your character feels being like a Requester chest
Key structures in automated crafting are:
electric-mining-drill || Collecting resources to provide them to the Transport network.
stone-furnace || Smelting resources to intermediate products.
assembling-machine-1 || Assemble intermediate products to needed items.

Basic
Task: create Iron plates.

* Place a Burner mining drill on a Iron ore resource field.
* Place a Furnace directly in front of the output, so that the miner outputs the ore into the furnace.
* Fill both (burner and furnace) with Fuel
* Wait. After a few seconds, the first piece of Iron plate is smelted and available for collection.

Advanced
Crafting by player: .... Todo ... How many items needed etc better explained as second task?

Crafting of Items can be automated. Place the needed building, select the recipe and whenever all ingredients are stored in the building the recipe will be produced one after one. To keep up continuous production ingredients have to be provided via belts and Inserters. The manufactured Items can also be extracted by Inserters and are then available for further usage.

Tools/Cheatcheets
There is a growing list of Tools and Cheatsheets, to gain more control about the complex crafting processes.

Factory chains
Sometimes an assembling machine requires so much input that there is more than one machine needed to supply enough material. In this case you may lose some efficiency when extracting the intermediate products on to a belt transport for only a few squares to insert them again into the final assembling machine. When using Inserters from machine to machine the Inserter item stack size bonus applies, saving power and time.

This method is best used when the intermediate products are not needed anywhere else.
This is a list of all Items usable as Fuel in burner devices, ordered by fuel value:
Item !! Fuel value !! Fuel value per raw total
wood || 2 MJ || 4 MJ per raw wood
raw-wood || 4 MJ || 4 MJ per raw wood
wooden-chest || 6 MJ || 3 MJ per raw wood
coal || 8 MJ || 8 MJ per coal
solid-fuel || 25 MJ || 20 MJ per unit of Crude oil *
small-electric-pole || 4 MJ || 4MJ per raw wood
rocket-fuel || 225 MJ ||

(*) This assumes the Crude oil is processed completely into Solid fuel, using Advanced oil processing and Heavy oil cracking as intermediate steps, but not Light oil cracking. Less efficient methods are possible. In practice, the Petroleum Gas part of processed crude oil is more likely to be used for something other than Solid fuel.

Note that through version 0.12.35, Rocket fuel is not Fuel and cannot be used in burner devices.
The Stack inserter is an electric inserter that can move more items at the same time. It was introduced in game version 0.13, replacing the Smart inserter that had been made unnecessary by changes to circuit and logistics functionality.

Moving at the speed of the Fast inserter, it transfers multiple items per cycle between containers to give it a material flow advantage at the cost of additional power consumption.
The Cargo wagon is used in conjunction with Diesel locomotives to form trains for the Railway network.

Please look into Vehicle/Train/Wagon for general information about this.

A wagon is used to transport items by train and can be filled/unfilled at train stations like a chest, but with many more inserters at the same time. Up to 12 inserters per wagon are possible (from both sides).
The Inserter item stack size is important to fill the wagon fast!

Stack limitation
Wagons have a stack limitation. Use it to limit the number of items, that can be inserted. This is useful, if you want to limit the number of transported items for some cases.

Stack filter
Each stack in the cargo wagon can be filtered. This works in the same way as with your quick bar (the toolbelt), default is pressing middle mouse button.

This can be used to transport some different items in one wagon, without overfilling it. Best example is for transporting empty and full oil barrels in one wagon and at the train stations the barrels are exchanged by smart inserters.

See for example Tired of babysitting expansions? Auto-supply w/ trains!.

Compressing items
A cargo wagon can be filled with 2000 items of ores (copper, iron, coal...) or 4000 item of processed plates (copper plates, iron plates, steel), which makes it a eventually a useful strategy to process the iron "in place", where you mine it, before you transport it to your factory.
It is possible to use the cargo wagon as a "big chest": Place rails, put a wagon on it and inserters around. The advantage of this construction is
* you can feed/unload the wagon with much more inserters (from/to a belt), and from here into/from another stack based system (a chest, assembly). This goes around the limitations of inserter stack size bonus.
* You can "transport" items over up to 14 (?) tiles (size of wagon plus length of long arm inserters).
:
Here in detail how this works: Many inserters put items into the wagons and only some out. This is only possible because Inserter_item_stack_size is researched

There are also other strategies of compressing the cargo before load.

Positions of wagons and inserters
The wagons can be filled/emptied at train stations and you need to keep in mind, that the inserter positions differs a bit, depending on, if you load vertical or horizontal.
